Planning your beautiful new garden design
Masterplanning in garden design refers to the comprehensive planning and design process that outlines the overall vision and layout of a garden or landscape project. It involves creating a detailed framework that considers all elements of the space. Essentially it is a concept plan that allows the customer to visualise exactly how the garden space will look and the different components that make up the design.
Bringing garden design to life
A garden masterplan will be undertaken once the initial outline design has been agreed. This will ensure that the layout has been fully discussed prior to the masterplan, ensuring the client is fully onboard with the proposed design. The design will also be checked on the ground beforehand to ensure it fits in with the space available.
A garden masterplan is normally presented in 2D or 3D with descriptive text explaining what is what and clearly detailing each part of the garden design. It will be created to scale and presented in full colour using Computer Aided Design.
The masterplan will be used by landscape professionals in order to determine costs and to build the garden to spec.
What’s included in the garden masterplan?
All of the following tasks will be undertaken before a masterplan can be created: -
Site Analysis: Understanding the site's characteristics, such as topography, climate, soil type, and existing vegetation
Functionality: Determining how the space will be used, including areas for relaxation, entertainment, gardening, or play
Aesthetic Considerations: Planning for visual elements like plant selection, color schemes, and hardscape features to create a cohesive and appealing design
Zoning: Dividing the garden into different areas or zones based on their function, such as formal gardens, vegetable patches, or recreational spaces
Sustainability: Incorporating eco-friendly practices, such as water conservation, biodiversity, and the use of native plants
Implementation Plan: Developing a phased approach to the execution of the design, which can help in managing costs and timelines
